For many years, the Raleigh County Bandmasters Association has sponsored two separate honor bands in early March, All-County Honor Band for the middle-school students and All-Region Honor Band for the high-school students.
For 2008 it was decided to combine the two separate honor bands and welcome students in grades 6-12 to participate in the Southern West Virginia Honor Band, with the students auditioning for placement in The Gold Band and The Silver Band.
Guest conductors for the 2012 SWV Honor Band are: The Gold Band – John A. Deskins, Arts Coordinator WV Department of Education, and The Silver Band – Logan Lindsey, Tuba/Euphonium/Jazz Ensemble, Alderson-Broaddus College.
Auditions for SWV Honor Band 2012 will take place on the evening of Thursday, March 8. Band and chair placement will be announced the next morning, and rehearsals will begin at Woodrow Wilson High School. Audition materials for wind players will be major scales up to and including four sharps and four flats and sightreading. Percussion students, ask your band director for the requirements for the percussion audition.
Rehearsals will be on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10. The culminating concert will be presented at WWHS Auditorium at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012. Everyone is invited to attend!
