Philip M. Wyatt

Philip M. Wyatt is currently Director of Bands at Washington Irving Middle School in Clarksburg, WV, where he also serves as team leader and past chair of the Faculty Senate. He teaches all levels of band and jazz band. He is currently entering his 33rd year of teaching music in West Virginia, during which time he has taught high school band, choral music, and general music, in addition to middle-school band. He received Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from West Virginia University ('74 & '82).

Mr. Wyatt is active as a clinician, instructor, and conductor and has been a presenter at several music and technology conferences. He has been guest conductor at WVU Honor Band, Marshall University Festival Band, and several All-County Bands. As a member of MENC: The National Association for Music Education, he serves as a Past President of the West Virginia Music Educators Association (WVMEA) and Advocacy Chair.

In 2000 he was named Harrison County Teacher of the Year. In 2002 Mr. Wyatt received the "25 Years of Distinguished Service Award" from the West Virginia Music Educators Association. In 2003 Wyatt was selected as one of "50 Directors That Make A Difference," by School Band and Orchestra (SBO) Magazine. Mr. Wyatt was named the 2005 West Virginia Bandmaster of the Year.

Mr. Wyatt is a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), Phi Beta Mu bandmasters' honorary, Kappa Kappa Psi band honorary, and Pi Kappa Lambda national music honorary societies. He has been involved in the West Virginia Arts Teams project as a trainer, WV Fine Arts Academy as a master teacher, and has worked on development of the state content standards and objectives.

As a saxophonist and vocalist, he performs regularly in the tri-state area and has performed with or backed up The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Connie Stevens, The Temptations, Lou Christie, Jimmy Merchant, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, The Four Aces, Bobby Rydell, Jerry Vale, Frankie Avalon, Maria Muldaur, Eddie Mekka, Fabian, These Three Tenors, Gene Ferrari, Dick Contina, and Anna Maria Alberghetti.
